Kids grab Zinkoff's hat and a fifth grader comes out and grabs the hat out of the kid's hands and supposedly it was the fifth grader's hat and he dropped it. People pick on each other. Zinkoff goes to the zoo and buys a giraffe hat.
Zinkoff notices Andrew's face and didn't Andrew recognize Zinkoff. I think people should read this book because it's good. Andrew changed his name to Drew.
From an Elementary Student in my class:There is this boy called Zinkoff and he goes to school. He hasn't seen Andrew Orwell in a long time. It has long words and tough words.
When Zinkoff went to school kids picked on him. As Zinkoff grows up he gets into middle school and he makes new friends and he has a sister named Polly.
Makes you wonder how come his family never got him any special help because he so needed it. This has got to be the worst book I have ever read. I want my money back and if I could recapture the hours of my life that I wasted on reading it, I would want that back too. It is such an awful book with such an unpleasant abrupt ending that I will never take the chance on reading another Spinelli book ever. I say this because throughout the entire depressing book, you are waiting for it to turn around and for this kid to become a non loser, to make a friend, to have something good happen and it just DOESN'T happen. It has an unsatisfying ending without any resolution to his sad sap life.
great book i recommend it to people who like storys about peoples live. a friend preffered this book to me. 5 stars. jerry spinelli is my favorite author. in this book he uses his abilities like its a piece of cake.
He is a typical kid who enjoys many of the things that you do. This can be confusing and because it is towards the end of the book, it can throw off the surprising ending. The reading level is 5.5 and the book has 218 pages. However, as he searches during the snowstorm the cold begins to affect to his mind and so Spinelli, being very clever, imitates the feeling of fuzziness in the story. Zinkoff is completely clue-less to the fact that he is not well liked and so he leads a happy life that is until fourth grade field day. In addition, Zinkoff's warm-hearted personality makes you realize what a great kid he really is, even though he does not fit in. In Loser we journey through Zinkoff's school life until 6th grade.
- Cristina Betancourt- This review refers to the hard cover version of the book. Are you searching for your next book to read. I recommend Loser for 4th through 6th graders. Most of us have been in a school were there was the person that disappears in our memories or that was extremely quirky to the point of being funny.
Typical to realistic fiction, Loser is a story that everyone can relate to. It may very well be that this search sets up a whole new chapter in Zinkoff's life, but that is for you to decide.I enjoyed reading Loser and many of my students also loved it. Donald has a loving family and sister that adore him, the neighbors that he cares for, and the kids who bring him up and down.
Zinkoff is in search of the missing Claudia. This is when other kids realize that he's a bit odd. Loser does paint a clear picture of how kids can be mean one minute, but friends the next. One of the difficult things about reading Loser is the end of the book. In Loser, by Jerry Spinelli, we meet Donald Zinkoff.
Jerry Spinelli creates the vivid world that Zinkoff lives in. One day Claudia gets lost and Zinkoff is off in search of her. He's the kid everyone knows, but they don't really who he is. There have been hints all along, his funny laugh, his klutziness, how he loses at everything, but now kids have finally found the word that describes Zinkoff perfectly, "LOSER." From then on Zinkoff finally realizes that the kids do not like him, he has no friends except for an older lady who he once delivered mail to and a little girl, Claudia, who was always on a human leash.
I think this book is not relevant to our cultures but you learn to think in a different way. Next, students tend to make fun of those who are different from them. The teacher didn't know it and we had fun during class. The reason is that he went to search for a little girl for seven hours during a snowy, cold night."Loser" by "Spinelli" is relevant to Korean students for the following reasons. One year ago in my fourth grade, there was a weird kid that made weird "um~" sounds every day.
Koreans go to many cram schools. This happens in sports and many activities where cooperation is needed. For instance, American children barely go to cram schools but learn most things at school. Usually, in Korea, outcasts just cry and do not try to play with people.
My friend didn't know the rules, so he accidentally scored on his own team. --------------------------In one town, there was a boy named Zinkoff. There are students like Zinkoff in Korea as well. In Korea or America, it is the same so I think it's relevant for Korean students to read this book.
Does Spinelli's story of a loser transcend culture and race. But he doesn't know he is loser and tries to adapt in school."Loser" by Spinelli is not relevant to Korean students for several reasons. First, there are students who suffer from mental or physical problems and go to the hospital to cure it. He is a little bit different from others, but he has a lot of patience. In 4th grade, I always sat with my best friend. When he was in the fourth grade, there was a school race where Zinkoff made the team lose and from that time on, he was called loser. First of all, in Korea, there are some days like field day we can enjoy.
They call them mean names such as `Pig'. However, football is an American sport and Koreans don't play it. The summary of this story is about a boy named Donald Zinkoff who loses during a school competition when he was in the 4th grade and becomes a loser. Also, Binns collects his earwax to make a candle and nobody does that either. Football, for example, is a familiar sport to Americans. Nevertheless, in this book, Zinkoff acts very differently.
For example, in Korea we don't play football and don't know how to play it. First, there are sports that Koreans don't play. This book is very interesting and I could understand it very well because this story is relevant to Korean students and parents."Loser" by Jerry Spinelli was very interesting because it is very fun, easy to understand, and it is educational. In the end, with his families help and support, his classmates never call him "Loser" and "nobody".I think the book, "Loser" by Jerry Spinelli is relevant to Korean students and parents for several reasons. In Korea there are no playgrounds outside of school and recess time is only 5 minutes. have different cultures so we can't relate to some things. For example, he tries to be best friends with Binns by giving his ear wax.
They bully people mainly because of the differences between them. However, one day, he shows his ability by searching for a girl for seven hours in the cold snow, and after this, he made many friends."Loser" by Jerry Spinelli is not relevant to Korean students for several reasons. He was mocked after the game. I think Korea students reading "Loser" will not understand this book because of the cultural differences. First, if there is a student like Zinkoff, Korean students call them mean names too. You will be very good person in your school.
This means we don't have situations like Zinkoff always sitting last. For instance, I was trying to watch a football game on TV, but I couldn't understand its rules. --------------------------The main characters in the book, "Loser" by Jerry Spinelli are Zinkoff and Zinkoff's family. For example, in the last part of the book, Zinkoff and others play football. For example, Zinkoff keeps on laughing in class and in Korea nobody really laughs that much. I always played with him during class.
These are a few reasons why "Loser" by Spinellis is not relevant to Korean students. First, America's culture and Korea's culture is different. I think "Loser" is not relevant to Korean people. But I recommend you read "Loser" because it will help you be better with your friends by being good at school and being popular. At first, nobody understood him, but at the end of the story, they started to understand him a little more.
But some of the people were not chosen, so I told my friends to pick them and told my friends to help them to do better. In summary, I recommend this book for everyone to read. Next, we don't sit in school by our last name. So, Korean students would understand the situation of Zinkoff being called a "Loser". However, Korean kids or adults don't know how to play it.
He does all kind of weird things such as laughing at everything. No one was friendly to him. I think you should read this book.--------------------------The main character of the story is Donald Zinkoff and he is very different from others. Once he was called a "Loser" because he came in last during a school race, but in the end he gained approval from a friend. Second, the behavior of Zinkoff is odd.
The book tells the reader how to get along with these types of friends. First, Korea and the U.S. For example, the book says Zinkoff plays football at the end of the story, but I didn't know what football was. For example, in Korea we have school races and play sports. In Korea, students like Zinkoff don't have any friends too. For example, when a 4th grader takes his hat, he just says "You can have it." In conclusion, for these reasons, Korean students can't understand some parts of this book, and this book is not relevant to Korean students. In Korea, there are also students with these types of personalities.
In middle school, he was called a nobody rather than loser. First, no matter where you go, there is always a student who doesn't do things well like Zinkoff -- a student who always has bad grades, a student who always comes in last during a race. Field day is a day when students compete against each other. In order to find out, I had my Korean 5th and 6th grade students write a book review of how relevant this book was to them. Secondly, American and Korean's lives are definitely different. It tells us that you shouldn't call your friends mean names and we have to be nice to each other.
Second, in the book, most of the characters do so many weird things that Korean students don't do. Zinkoff is very bright but he is different from others so his nickname becomes "Loser" and "nobody".His family gives lots of help when he is sad or when he has problems. Even though he loves going to school, he always has bad grades. For example, one day my class played dodge ball. Second, Korean students should read "Loser" because the book shows how Donald deals with friends. In the end of the story, Zinkoff makes a friend.I think this book is not relevant to Korean students for two reasons.
